"This is the true story of one woman's life in the Berkshire country village of Holyport. Born of humble parentage during the great depression she tells of a life in service to which she was sent at the age of fourteen along with tales of going to bed by candle light, oil lamps, the local shops, roaming through fields picking flowers and Chapel trips to the seaside. when eighteen, as the enemy bombers droned overhead, Mabel Coppins was called up for war service and tells of life in Holyport during the Second World war. After the War, she discovers that the village life of her childhood would never be the same again. Cottager's homes had now become valuable property and the days of the cottager were fading fast, especially for those having roots in the village stretching back over 100 years."
